And for the first time since December. Sheesh. Well, the first part was with Toadsworth, and the second part with Marty, so now, let's just continue to see what's happened to Mario!
If there was one thing Mario liked about being imprisoned, it was the sleep. Sleep came easy to him in a horrible place like this, believe it or not, because his jail cell was pitch black. Sleep was an escape, an escape to wild lands and exciting events, and old memories. Every night Mario slept, he dreamed of Peach, Luigi, Toad, and all of his other friends.
Mario hated sleep too. Because every morning, he was forcibly woken up with a bucket of ice cold water splashed on his face. Like right that second, for one instance.
Mario gasped for air and flew himself of the stone floor, and stumbled over to the closest wall. As soon as he remembered where he was and fully woke up, he turned around to see a Prison Guard, smirking, holding a now empty bucket. Mario couldn't exactly tell what species the guard was. He was no pianta, nor noki, nor tanooki, not even human.
"Wakie wakie." The guard muttered in a baby-ish and laughed cruelly at his own little joke. Mario sighed and, at gunpoint from the guard, trudged out of his cell in shackles and a prison jumpsuit.

So, for the past four days, Mario was held in the chambers of President Chuck Ster, which apparently was also a prison. He wasn't the only inmate either. Mario walked into the prison cafeteria, where he found himself facing a good twenty or thirty other prisoners, and a lot of guards. There were at least several of them on ground level, but there were at least twice that many above on a high-above catwalk.
Over the past few days, Mario had decided to make a game of how many expressions he could find on the inmates.

Mario was genuinely surprised that every day, one inmate always smiled. But looking closer at the inmate, the smile was less happiness and joy and moreso psychotic, as if saying "Im'ma rip all of your limbs off!" So Mario avoided him, like every other inmate who had the will strong enough to live. But not all of them did.
Mario grabbed a tray full of dried fruit and looked around, and found himself face to face with two Nokis who had befriended him. They were twins, Reynold and Glenn. And they all shared a secret plan. He walked over and sat down next to them. They were the only people sitting at the table.
"Is it time yet?" Mario asked in a hushed voice. Reynold looked around, scanning the room. Being the brains of the trio, he calculated whether or not they had a decent chance of performing the plan correctly, and surviving long enough to escape afterward.
"I think so." Reynold answered, and Glenn nodded. They had been planning their idea long before Mario had even arrived to the inner chambers.
Mario, well aware of what they were about to do, nodded. He picked up his tray of dried up, leftover fruit and walked over to the only guard that was next to the entrance. The guard, just a little taller than Mario, looked down at the plumber.
"Whaddya you want?" He scowled.
Mario slyly looked up at the guard, distracting him. "Hey, guess what?" The guard regarded Mario suspiciously.
"...What?"
"Chicken butt." SLAM! Mario brought up the tray at lightning speed and slammed it across the guard's face. He was hit with such force that the guard spun around a few times before falling to the ground unconcsious. Mario, as fast as he had knocked him out, fell to the ground and searched the guard's pockets before finding a collection of keys. Mario sprinted to the large entrance door and opened it, all before any guards could reach him.
Glenn stood up on a table and shouted, "PRISON BREAK!"
And then chaos took over. Mario, Glenn, and Reynold all ran out the door into the hallways, with many other escaping prisoners and guards on their way. Many other prisoners and the guards all ran down the labyrinth of hallways, but Mario and the two Nokis stopped at the door to an empty room and hid inside before the others caught up.
The three turned and found that they were not actually in a room, but instead in an old stairwell. A dim red light tinted everything in the room. They, one by one, raced down the stairwell and opened the only door at the bottom of the stairs. At first it wouldn't budge, but with the combined strength of the three of them, the door pulled backwards and opened.
Mario, Glenn, and Reynold all looked at what lay ahead of them. Mario, not even fully realizing he had opened his mouth, answered the question of where they were.
"The Maze of Death."
